We need a cheap second car. What should we get?

We want a run-around for local trips that won't cost much. What car do others in this position recommend?

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out ? a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper.

This week's question

We need a second car for local trips and are looking for the cheapest possible motoring. A Morris Minor will cost 100 a year to insure, and be tax free, but needs work. There is an old Toyota Prius nearby for 999 which is good on fuel and tax. What do others in our shoes drive?
