Last week, Kenneth Minogue, author of The Liberal Mind and The Servile Mind, died on a plane from the Galapagos to Guayaquil. Ken's last work explored the idea that societies are made up of individuals who against logic give huge responsibilities to a government they despise, that self-reliance is now a Victorian ideal. Ken was a true intellectual, equally at ease while discussing Thomas Hobbes, Henry James or Gioacchino Rossini, and at the same time the most charming and the wittiest of persons.
